Secure Accounts [Staff]
Keeping your account secure is important. Just as you have passwords for your bank account and emails and of course your board account, there are other things you can do to help keep your account safe. You should reinforce the idea of security to your staff so that they:
  • Have a secure email that does not use the same password as their forum account (preferably, a unique password altogether);
  • Have a long password for their board account that takes full advantage of numbers and characters.
  • NEVER give account access to anyone else - parents, siblings, cousins, family members, friends.
  • Avoid the use of words in passwords.
  • Perhaps create a unique email for their account and to keep it secret.
Also you may wish to encourage them to use the Advanced Account Security (see below).

Extra Account Security
ZB comes with new features to help you keep your account safe and these can be found under the Advanced Account Security options. There are several available functions:
  • Security Question & Answer - similar to the function used by most email services, to help authenticate you if necessary.
  • Your Phone Number - used for password recovery and the information is strictly confidential.
  • Disable lost password system for x days - allows you to prevent Lost Password recovery being used for your account for the given time. Particularly useful if you plan on being absent for some time (holidays, etc.).
  • Password Security Score - using a score out of 4, this tells you how secure your current password is based on whether it contains:
    • Uppercase and lowercase letters
    • A number
    • Punctuation or symbols
    • At least 8 characters

Board E-mail Address
As mentioned above, part of the overall security is to ensure both on-board accounts and email addresses are well protected. A tip for ROOT Administrators: the board itself requires an email address in order to designate outgoing emails with a primary setting (email PM notifications, mass email function, etc.). By default, the email you register your board with is the designated board email. As a means of keeping your own primary email address private, you should change the board email setting as soon as possible. Simply set up another email address with one of the many free email hosts and use that.

In doing this the email address registered to your account will not be shown on normal outgoing emails (except those you send yourself using the email system) so it remains private.
