I only saw one topic of this nature, but the general question wasn't exactly what I need to know. The Search feature is giving me an error as well, so if this is a duplicate or just a stupid question, forgive me.

Now, I moved my board from Invisionfree to ZetaBoards and have been adjusting to the differences for about a month now - generally, in all respects, I have found the latter to be far more accommodating.

However, I'm now having way too hard a time figuring out how to promote members to new groups when their post count rises.

The weirdest thing is I had already applied this feature to my board once...but I absolutely can't seem to find it again. It's not anywhere I can see from the permissions or group settings. And I can't find any FAQ that gives me the answer, either.

I just simply want members to be promoted to new groups the more posts they receive - each group has its own permissions that make new forums visible to those who have higher post counts.

But I can't seem to figure out how to activate the promotion feature.

I'm sure this is a stupid question...but I just can't find the answer, so any help is appreciated.

Still a fan of the Fightin' Irish

When you're in your ACP, click Groups, then select the group you want to promote. The option for promotions should be the last one on the page when you're editing the group.

The last set of options available for me to modify is 'Upload Permissions' in all the groups.

Edit - I tested this same feature on my other ZetaBoards board, and I do indeed have the option to promote any rank except the obvious ones with staff permissions.

Well, I don't see why it's not working here - I did create the permissions before the groups, and set each group with its own permission mask already.

But those permissions masks are all for regular members, NOT staff.

I still don't understand.

Here's a screenshot of the editing page for the default Members group:

Spoiler: click to toggle

I'm completely stuck.

I thought I might have screwed something up by creating the permissions before the groups, or...who knows what...so I deleted all the permissions and groups that weren't in use, and still, I can't even create a new group with the promotion feature...the last option is always Upload Settings!!

I even went through all my board options to try and find if there was a 'yes/no' category for 'can promote groups', but I've turned up nothing!!

The promotion feature is something central to how I want to control my board. Is there any way to fix this issue?

It's definitely not there; every time I go to make a new group it's like what I showed in the screenshot :(

I suggest you open a ticket and ask for a staff member to look at your settings. It'd be easier for him to look into it than for us who can't see your forum's ACP.

Tomato.

Are you member number 1 or within the root admin group?

I just tested this, and the above can edit these settings, but any admin in a seperate group cannot access the promote option.

I'm the one who created the board, so Member #1 and the root.

However, I did create a new group to distinguish me and my co-Admin, so I'm currently in a group 'based off' Admin...not the Admin group itself.

That could actually be the problem, then; I made my first promotion change prior to this. The question is, with the board no longer identifying me as in the Root group, can I move myself back?

--EDIT--

Success!! I moved myself back to the Root group, and the promotion option has indeed become visible. Thank you very much to Gladstone for pointing me in the right direction. :)
